Little Joyce got bounced around a lot.
By her late teens, Joyce had lived on over 10 homes. With Papa & Mama’s work taking them all over California, Joyce rarely stayed in one place for long.
In her late teens, Joyce bought a purple Corvette which she promptly drove 130 MPH over a bridge, leaving the ground for a second.
So it’s no surprise that after her four year marriage broke up and with little Mike on her arm she looked hard for a good opportunity.
That came in the form of a little green shack on Coast Highway. When Joyce spied the Mexican restaurant that would become Spaghetti Bender she saw something good in a location that others had not. She quickly bought the property and began creating her dream.
With Papa cooking and Mama prepping the food, Joyce ran the restaurant at night; waiting tables and managing at the same time.
Legend has it that the first night not one soul came in.
After a local restaurant reviewer gave a great write up business boomed and Joyce’s foresight of a run-down little shack was validated.
As soon as business stabilized, Joyce was able to indulge her passion for travel, spending time across America, Hawaii and Europe.
Joyce has always been “The Brains Behind The Brawn”, guiding the restaurant successfully since it’s beginning through today.
